Happy Holiday folks. I want to congratulate my buddy Steve Canton of SJC Boxing in Fort Myers Florida. Steve was inducted into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame last week. I did alot of work with Steve when I lived in Fort Myers before moving here to Las Vegas in October of 1997. One of the most memorable things I did with Steve was I was the broadcaster for the FIRST EVER INTERNET BOXING EVENT on May 23, 1997 in Punta Gorda Florida. As part of the broadcast where two late legends, Boxing Historian Hank Kaplan and The man who is credited with inventing the bolo punch for Welterweight Champion Kid Gavilan. To think of all the internet boxing now like the one I did the other night at the Orleans and I was involved in the first. Congrats again to Steve and all those inducted. I hope to get down to my home state of Florida and MC the event and hope to be in with that group myself someday soon. Smitty out.

Well I had a fairly easy nights work sitting ringside at the Orleans Ball room here in Vegas. Done many a fight there over the years. Former Heavyweight Champ Oliver McCall blew away former Rugby League Star turned boxer John Hoppa Hopoate in the second round, kind of how I figured it would go. Oliver and I chatted before the fight about how we ate barbeque dinner together at Don Kings house here in Vegas and watched Lennox Lewis beating Phil Jackson, that was the fight before Lennox fought McCall in 1994. Oliver over some ribs forcasted with me that he would be able to hit Lennox with his right and knock him out. We both saw Lewis susceptibilty to being hit with that shot. And the rest is history as he went on to knock out a then unbeaten Lewis in round 2 and win the Heavyweight Crown. Less than 3 years later in a rematch with Lewis, McCall suffered that bizarre breakdown actually crying in the ring and forcing ref Mills lane to stop the fight and awary a tko victory to Lewis on a 5th round tko. This guy Hoppa I have found out is the most penalized guy in the history of Rugby League and talk about bizarre, well what actually got him kicked out of the league was too many sticks in the butt. Yes he was known to constantly stick his fingures up the rear ends of his opponents in an attempt to get them off their game. Well it got him out of the game. So you know what if this guy tried that last night maybe Oliver really would have had reason to cry. Glove in the rear may be worse than left to the jaw. TAKE THAT. Smitty out
